Castleford Cavalcade 2004 - Sunday 5th September 2004

After the bitter disappointment of having to cancel last years Cavalcade this year’s event like the Phoenix is rising from the ashes. As a Club we have been more determined than ever to get the Cavalcade back on the calendar. We are pleased to say that this years Cavalcade is well under way. We are determined to once again make it one of the Premier events on the Classic bike calendar. Our problem began after the 2002 Cavalcade when a lady leaving the event injured her self and is suing us, Pontefract Race Course and Wakefield MDC for damages. This left us last year with insurmountable problems trying to get Public Liabilities Insurance. We have now overcome these problems and together with a new venue at Havercroft & Ryhill Youth and Sports Centre near Nostel Priory, Wakefield we have a bigger area together with better on sight facilities.

The Cavalcade will follow the successful formula that we have established over recent years. It will be essentially a Classic Bike event but an important part of our Cavalcade that has become established over recent years is catering for bikes of all ages, vintage to modern including scooters. Whose histories are closely intertwined with the British Bike scene? In short ALL BIKES, ALL AGES and ALL MAKES. Classic cars will be on display that was on the road when British bikes where in their heyday.
We hope to have a good Auto Jumble with a wide variety of stalls, a brass band playing to fill in those quiet moments and a number of marching majorettes giving a display of their skills. The sports Centre bar will be open selling liquid refreshment at more realistic prices than in recent years together with a variety of food outlets that should also be better priced.

The event will start in one of two ways...

The Road Run
The first and for me the best way to start the Cavalcade is to start the day with the Road Run. Running through some of the nicest country lanes in North Yorkshire in the company of about 200 other motorcyclists on a sunny day is heaven on earth. Best of all this part is free once you have paid your £3 to enter the Cavalcade.

Havercroft & Ryhill Youth & Sports Centre
The second way to start the day is to go directly to the Cavalcade sight any time after 9.00am. You will be able to scower the Auto Jumble for bargain but you will have to be patient for the majority of bikes that will be on display will not there until after the Road run arrives. Parking for bikes will be available on the show ground and the disabled will be able to park next to the entrance if you have not entered. If you have entered put your bike on display, call directly at the Control Tent and pick up your free program and memorial slate coaster and enjoy a quiet wonder round. Grab a bacon butty and wait for the Road Run to arrive. After the Road Run arrives judging for the various classes will start. As soon as the judges have finished their deliberations the Presentation of the Trophies will begin, usually some time between 3.00 and 4.00pm.
